You are behind every success story!
Writing a success story is always inspiring, but summarizing a story of 13 years of success is a challenging one. In 1998, the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences was established under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Patron of the Award, the first such award to honour distinguished institutions and individuals in the field of medicine worldwide and to support the medical community in the United Arab Emirates. The Award also plays an important role in fostering scientific discussions through its own series of conferences or by supporting conferences organized by other associations. The Award realized long ago the importance of the field of genetics and the central role it is expected to play in the realm of medicine. This belief resulted in the establishment of the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies as a forum for regional and international genetic communities to collaborate and to open the doors for new applications in the field of human genetics.
Another auspicious date, 25 March 2012, marks the launch of the Hamdan Medical Journal as an improved version of the former Journal of Medical Sciences as the new official publication of the Award. Hamdan Medical Journal is named after His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in light of his invaluable contributions to the advancement in biomedical fields over the years.
The transformation of the journal was inevitable to fulfil the aim of publishing an e-journal with an expedited online publishing process and seamless accessibility from all corners of the world. Accordingly, several changes are now implemented in the Hamdan Medical Journal, including the support of a new International Editorial Board, the implementation of a very advanced communication platform and the adaptation of an ‘Open Issue’ model in which a peer-reviewed article is made available online as soon as it is ready for publication.
I would like to use this opportunity to thank Professor Yousef Abdulrazzaq, the first Editor-in-Chief of the journal, and to congratulate all contributors to this new phase of success.
I strongly believe that Hamdan Medical Journal will be a remarkable forum for articles inspiring life-changing discoveries. I invite you and your colleagues to be part of this success story and to contribute to the journal with your cutting-edge research results.
Wishing you all the best,
Professor Najib Al Khaja
