Profile of Prof. John Rees



John Rees qualified in medicine at Cambridge University and Guy’s Hospital Medical School, London. Currently he is Professor of Medical Education at King's College London School of Medicine, London, UK where he was Dean of Undergraduate Education until the end of 2010. He was a Consultant Physician in general and respiratory medicine at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation Trust, Censor at the Royal College of Physicians of London and vice chairman of Lewisham University Hospital Trust Board.

He has been an external examiner on undergraduate and postgraduate examinations in the University of the West Indies, Hong Kong, Sudan, Somaliland, Sri Lanka, Kuwait and Dubai and has helped with medical school evaluation in Zimbabwe, Somaliland, Sudan, Egypt, Syria, Sierra Leone and Japan. He has been a reviewer for numerous journals and performed editorial work for the British medical Journal and the International Journal of Clinical Practice. He was previously chairman of the UK National Asthma Campaign Research Grants Committee. He is an examiner at MRCP Paces and was a member of the MRCP Part 1 Board.

His respiratory medicine interest is in airways disease and sleep medicine. He has published over 200 articles on respiratory medicine and medical education and written 17 book chapters and 20 textbooks. He is the education lead for the King’s Centre for Global Health and is involved with medical school developments in Sierra Leone, Somaliland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
