Awarding individuals, organisations or clinical departments for their contribution is a great honour and a long-lasting glory. Hamdan Award honours those who have made a substantial impact on others in the field of humanitarian services, medical services and research. Due to their dedication, they were successful to transform the life of millions. This term, we have received large number of nominations on iconic international figures in the field of Rheumatology, Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic-mechanics. The winner will have the honour to join the elite of world known scientists, volunteers and organisations who have won Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences over the last 20 years.

I had this unique opportunity to work with a panel of judges in the UAE and internationally to screen applications. The competition between the nominees was ferocious given their life achievements and the spectrum of musculoskeletal diseases. In addition to the standard criteria, we had to consult with eleven external international reviewers’ experts in the Rheumatology, Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic-mechanics to award the deserved nominee per different award categories.

Hamdan Medical Journal is the official publication of the Award Organisation and the articles published in this issue are from the participated Scientists in the Award competition. I take this opportunity to assure our beloved readers of this journal issue that you will find an update on several musculoskeletal disorders as well as orthopaedic surgical procedure and techniques, etc., Furthermore, we believe that research frequently challenges the norm and provides mean of development and growth; hence, we have dedicated a special section for original research marking 20th years anniversary of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.

This issue is filled with the articles of Shoulder-Pacemaker treatment for functional posterior shoulder instability, another one talking about therapy of disabling extraskeletal ossification through a pathophysiological process, yet another article about Orthoplastic Extremity Reconstruction-From Replantation to Transplantation, etc., in the pages ahead.

I would like to conclude by thanking all of those who have contributed to the success of this term of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for Medical Sciences and those who founded and build this international scientific body of the last 20 years.
